A writing prompt for self-care

Hi Reader,

I don’t have any deep words to say today in the wake of the US election results. Regardless of how you voted, I hope you know and understand how profoundly many, many, many people will be adversely affected because of who we elected.

So what I do have for you today is a writing prompt for self-care.

It’s two parts:

  1. What if . . . (fear): Write out all of the fears, worries, doubts, anxieties you have. Write without stopping. Get out as much as you can. This is an exercise in processing fear and releasing it. If you do not process and release the fear, your physical body will hold onto it and cause tension and stress and even pain. You want to get it out of your body.
  2. Even if . . . (faith): What will happen and what do you want to see yourself manifest? EVEN IF {fill-in-the-blank} with whatever comes up for you . . . Maybe something like: I will be ok; I will remain calm; I will figure things out; I have what I need; I have love and support.

These can become powerful mantras that you hold onto when you need them most. You may not feel these things or know what your “even if” statements are right now, but write to the prompt and let yourself discover what comes up. You will be surprised by the strength lying dormant within you that may currently be dominated by fear. This exercise can help bring your strength to the forefront.

That’s all I have for you today. Stay strong.

Who am I and what’s this email all about?

I’m Janna. I’m a book coach and editor for women writing nonfiction. I write weekly emails with tips, motivation, inspiration, and encouragement for the writing and creative life. I support women with coaching and editing on writing, finishing, and publishing their nonfiction books in my private community More to the Story. (Yes, editing and manuscript review is available for community members.)

One of my mantras is: Tell stories without shame. I believe that we can find health, wellness, and happiness in life when we share our personal story with others, because it helps us come to terms with what makes us who we are.
